Style Steals: What I Added to My Closet Last Month
Raise your hand if you are one of those people with a full closet, but “nothing” to wear. 🖐🏽
This is a bit of an exaggeration, but I think the reason so many of us face this same experience is due to the fact that our style is constantly evolving. We may invest in an item that we adore, but by the next season we put it on and something just doesn’t feel right… maybe it doesn’t speak to us in the same way it once did.
It’s not always necessary to undergo an entire wardrobe makeover as you re-invent and elevate your style. I guarantee that several of the pieces you own are versatile and timeless, being able to transition into different seasons of the year or phases of your life. Truly, it’s about being creative and, oftentimes, getting out of your own head.
Curating your wardrobe and style is a life-long process that grows and transforms as you do. With this understanding, I encourage you to be courageous and adventurous as you continue on your style journey.
I’ve been on a mission to add classic, timeless and functional pieces to my closet over the last few years. Once you understand that your needs and wants don’t have to be separate, you will begin to curate a wardrobe that is both functional and satisfying.
Below I’ve shared some of my most=cherished recent finds! Each of these pieces have elevated various aspects of my style and I’m looking forward to styling these pieces as we transition into the fall season. You’ll realize that most often, I invest in pieces that are discounted or found at a local outlet, but there are certain products I will purchase at full price after intentionally saving.
Really, it’s all about what you’re comfortable with. You know yourself best and you have the freedom to experiment with your style, even while on a budget!
Here you can find some of the classic pieces I added to my closet last month:
Adidas Ultraboost 21 $135
I began wearing the Adidas Ultraboost in 2019 and haven’t looked back. Prior to starting dental school, I did an ample amount of research on finding shoes that would be comfortable to wear 12+ hours each day. I was willing to invest in a more expensive shoe because I wanted to ensure that I was taking care of my body while completing my day-to-day tasks. I soon discovered that many teachers, nurses, doctors and dentists were wearing the Adidas Ultraboost and spoke highly of the comfort and support they provided for long days.
Last year, I also picked up running as part of my wellness journey. The Adidas Ultraboost are the BEST running shoes I’ve found by far.
These sneakers normally retail for $180, but you can find them on sale at Dick’s Sporting Good’s for $134.98. Certain styles are also on sale for 25% off on adidas.com this holiday weekend!
Tory Burch “Perry Bombe” Gingham Mini Bag $179
I recently snagged this adorable mini bag from Tory Burch’s Private Sale. The gingham print is timeless, classic and unique all at the same time! The bag has two separate compartments, along with both an interior slit pocket and an exterior pocket. An adjustable, removable strap is included to convert this bag into the perfect crossbody for fall.
The bag is sold out online at Tory Burch, but I found it at Saks Fifth Avenue for $208.60. Now through Tuesday, September 6th, you can get this bag from Saks Fifth Avenue for $187.74 using code “GETMORE.”
“Seeing Spots” Earrings from Paige Helman Designs $4-$14
Paige and I actually went to college together and when she recently opened her Etsy store, Paige Helman Designs, I couldn’t wait to support! Her gorgeous, handmade polymer clay earrings are not only versatile, transiting perfectly from casual, daytime looks to a night on the town, but extremely lightweight. No more sacrificing comfort for stunning accessories that elevate any outfit!
If you love statement earrings, I encourage you to check out her Etsy store! The beauties featured in this blog are sold out, but check out her new “Fully Known” earrings for a similar style. Be sure to follow Paige on Instagram at @paigehelmandesigns for updates as she releases new collections.
Pro Tip: Paige also announces sales from time-to-time on her Instagram — be sure to follow! 👀
“Leave a Trail Hat” from Hope’s $10.80
Now, I’ve been on the lookout for a good hat for quite some time now. I typically avoid purchasing hats due to fit. Okay, okay… I have a rather large head. My mom says it’s due to “all of my brains,” so let’s just go with that.
This beautiful hat has a rose-pink color throughout and features a black ribbon around the base for added detail. If you’re looking for the perfect hat to add to your collection, the “Leave a Trail Hat” may be a good place to start.
This “Leave a Trail Hat” is currently on sale at Hope’s from $35.99 to $10.80. I repeat… $10.80!
Michael Kors Lala Slippers $69
Whether you call them slippers or “house shoes,” we can all get down with a comfortable style to relax in. These Lala Slippers by Michael Kors are not only comfortable, but stylish, elevating any WFH or weekend lounge look. I’ve been living in these for the last week and already have my eye out for another pair.
You can purchase these slippers in the color “Camel” at Macy’s for $69. They are also currently on sale at Nordstrom in select sizes and colors for $27.60!
OPI Infinite Shine Long-Wear Nail Lacquer $13
If you love a good mani/pedi, you should definitely try the OPI Infinite Shine Long-Wear Nail Lacquer line! Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, I would typically get a gel manicure and regular toe polish change every two weeks. It wasn’t until I was forced to figure out how to achieve the same beautiful result at home that I realized how much money I’d be saving on a monthly basis.
During this time, I invested in an at-home gel polish kit, but found the OPI Infinite Shine Nail Lacquer to be perfect when I needed a polished look with little time. OPI states that you should get 11 days of wear with the Infinite Shine line, similar to gel polish, but with much easier removal.
You can purchase the OPI Infinite Shine Long-Wear Nail Lacquer line in a variety of different colors on Amazon for $13 each.
PINK Seamless One-Shoulder Sports Bra $13
Who doesn’t love a good sports bra? This seamless, one-shoulder sport bra is lightly-lined, wireless and features removable padding, allowing you to adjust to your desired support.
I’ve always believed in the statement “when you look good, you feel good,” but until this year I didn’t realize how important it was to feel good even in the comfort of your own space. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, I would come home, shower and care less about what I looked like after hours. When I had to be productive from my own living space, I realized the importance of feeling “put together” even if I was staying home all day. I don’t know about you, but as much as I love staying in my pajamas all day I cannot sustain an acceptable level of productivity on a consistent basis.
With this understanding, I've recently added several loungewear pieces to my closet that are cozy, yet fashionable — allowing me to feel prepared to take on anything the day throws my way, but feeling comfortable while doing so!
This sports bra is currently on clearance for $12.99 at Victoria’s Secret. It comes in “Damsel Pink" or “Double Platinum.”
Bling Protective Bumper Case for the Apple Watch $8.99
The amount of compliments I’ve gotten on this Apple Watch accessory in the last two week has been unreal! You will definitely be getting your bang for you buck with this Bling Protective Bumper from Amazon. The case protects your Apple Watch from damage, while upgrading a casual outfit or complementing a luxurious evening look.
This beautiful, protective bumper can be found on Amazon for $8.99. Be sure to pay attention to size if you order!
Placket Vest & Shorts Set from SHEIN $24.99
Looks that transition from season to season are the key to my heart. It was love at first sight with this “Glamaker Button Placket Vest & Shorts Set” from SHEIN. This outfit has provided me with chic summer looks and I'm so excited to transition it to my fall wardrobe with a pair of knee-high boots, a turtleneck and a rich lip color — honestly, the possibilities are endless!
This set is currently available on SHEIN for $24.99. For those looking for a little more coverage, a long-sleeve variation of the set is now available for $30.
GUCCI Havana Sunglasses in Grey/Pink Gradient $159
One thing I refuse to do is pay full price for a pair of sunglasses. It seems that no matter how well you take care of them, eventually, they will get scratched, damaged or lost. With this in mind, I always keep my eyes out for stylish shades to add to my collection.
These Gucci Havana Sunglasses are EVERYTHING. The best part? These sunglasses were found at Nordstrom Rack for $159 (they normally retail at $450). If you haven’t already, I encourage you to head to your local Nordstrom Rack if you’re on the hunt for a new pair of shades or other accessories. Whether you are a fan of Ray Ban aviators or would like to invest in a designer pair of sunglasses, such as Fendi or Celine, I guarantee you can find it at the Rack!
Pro Tip: If you find a pair of sunglasses at Nordstrom Rack, ask if they have a case for them at checkout. Oftentimes, they keep designer cases behind the checkout counter and will be free with your purchase when you ask!
Apple Watch Band in Milk Tea $7
Matching my Apple Watch band to my outfit of the day just makes my soul happy — can you relate?! With so much of my style involving neutral tones, I immediately fell in love with the gorgeous color of this band. Also, the quality is amazing for the low price!
You can purchase this band on Amazon in a variety of colors for less than $7. Be sure to select the appropriate size band if you decide to invest in one!
GUCCI GG Marmont Mini Bucket Bag $980
Now, I have had my eye on this gorgeous bag for a little over a year now. With crossbody and bucket bags being so “in” right now, this GG Marmont Mini Bucket Bag is truly the best of both worlds!
The bag features black matelassé leather with a heart on the back, antique gold-toned hardware, a drawstring closure and a chain strap with a 23.6” drop that easily converts this accessory into the perfect crossbody bag. The Double G decorating the front of this bag provides a timeless and elegant look that has the ability to upgrade any outfit you pair it with.
This bag was an incredible gift, but can be found online at Gucci for $980. If you are looking for a gently used or less expensive, authentic version of this bag, I suggest looking at websites like Tradesy, The Real Real or Poshmark.
In my opinion, “style” is something that evolves as we do. I often think of it like this — I know who I am and all that I’m aspiring to become, but with that there is still growth, evolution and renewed perspectives along my journey. My identity has the ability to constantly evolve while I stay true to myself at my core.
Why not think of style in this manner? It’s okay to grow out of things, part ways with pieces you once loved and be a bit adventurous in your new pursuits. At the same time, there are staple pieces that can evolve with you for decades to come.
Remember curating your style is a life-long process that evolves and transforms as you do. I encourage you to be adventurous and creative in this pursuit! I hope some of my recent finds bring you inspiration and confirmation to trust yourself as you re-define yourself through style.

Building your wardrobe and style shouldn’t be a daunting task — have fun with it, try new things and be confident in yourself! If something doesn’t feel like “you” anymore, you have the power to curate looks that give the world a glimpse of all that you are.
